Forecast Discussion

Product: Forecast Discussion Issued: 2020 May 22 1230 UTC Prepared by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center
Solar Activity
.24 hr Summary… Solar activity continued at very low levels. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available satellite imagery.
.Forecast… Solar activity is expected to persist at very low levels 22-24 May.
Energetic Particle
.24 hr Summary… The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at normal to moderate levels and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background values.
.Forecast… The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to continue at normal to moderate levels 22-24 May and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to remain at background levels.
Solar Wind
.24 hr Summary… Solar wind parameters were indicative of a nominal solar wind regime. Wind speeds were 320-350 km/s, total field strength ranged between 2-7 nT, and the Bz component varied between +3/-5 nT. Phi was variable between both solar sectors.
.Forecast… Solar wind parameters are expected to remain at mostly background levels, with occasional enhancements possible, due to weak CH HSS influence 22-24 May.
Geospace
.24 hr Summary… The geomagnetic field was at quiet levels.
.Forecast… The geomagnetic field is expected to be at mostly quiet levels, with a chance of isolated unsettled periods, 22-24 May as intermittent, weak CH HSS effects occur.
