Forecast Discussion

Product: Forecast Discussion Issued: 2020 May 23 1230 UTC Prepared by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center
Solar Activity
.24 hr Summary… Solar activity was at very low levels. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available satellite imagery.
.Forecast… Solar activity is expected to persist at very low levels 23-25 May.
Energetic Particle
.24 hr Summary… The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at normal to moderate levels and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background values.
.Forecast… The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to continue at normal to moderate levels 23-25 May and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to remain at background levels.
Solar Wind
.24 hr Summary… Solar wind parameters were at nominal levels with solar wind speed between 299-379 km/s. Total field ranged from 1-6 nT while the Bz component was variable between +4/-5 nT. Phi angle was mostly oriented in a negative (towards) solar sector.
.Forecast… Solar wind parameters are expected to remain at or near background levels, with occasional enhancements possible, due to weak CH HSS influence 23-25 May.
Geospace
.24 hr Summary… The geomagnetic field was at quiet levels.
.Forecast… The geomagnetic field is expected to be at mostly quiet levels, with a chance of isolated unsettled periods, 23-25 May as intermittent, weak CH HSS effects occur.
