Forecast Discussion

Product: Forecast Discussion Issued: 2020 Sep 17 0030 UTC Prepared by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center
Solar Activity
.24 hr Summary… Solar activity was very low with a spotless visible disk. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery.
.Forecast… Very low solar activity is expected to continue 17-19 Sep.
Energetic Particle
.24 hr Summary… The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was normal to moderate, and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux continued at background values.
.Forecast… The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to continue at normal to moderate levels, and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux should remain at background levels on 17-19 Sep.
Solar Wind
.24 hr Summary… Solar wind parameters reflected a background solar wind regime. Total field strength averaged near 3 nT, the Bz component was negligible, and solar wind speed decreased to near 300 km/s. The phi angle was predominantly positive, with deviations into the negative sector after 16/1445 UTC.
.Forecast… Background solar wind conditions are expected to persist on 17-19 Sep.
Geospace
.24 hr Summary… The geomagnetic field was quiet.
.Forecast… Continued quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected on 17-19 Sep.
